Last week's infusion & more

On Wednesday I had a bone-strengthening infusion. Aftereffects on Day 3 were rough. But I've improved—and have even planned my biggest outing for tomorrow.

My three-month bone-strengthening infusion was on Wednesday. If you remember, I had fractured ribs last fall, and these infusions are to prevent more bone problems.

My sister remembered that last time the infusion was rough on me, and that's why she came last week, so that she can help out. Oddly I DIDN'T remember that!

But she was right.

The aftereffects were rough. They didn't kick in until Day 3, which was Friday. Years ago a surgery nurse told me that typically Day 3 after a surgery or infusion was the roughest. And that has borne out in most cases.

I felt fine the afternoon and evening after the infusion. And even the next day.

But I woke up Friday feeling as if I had the flu. Without the fever.

My joints ached. Randomly. The joints in my toes might ache for a bit. Then maybe the outside of my knees. Then it might be my elbows. Different joints, none for a long time. All over my body.

And I had a headache. And the soles of my feet felt hot. I remember that last one from the first time. I guess because it seemed so weird.

I did have a nice distraction though. The Masters Golf Championship was on TV. My sister and I like watching every year, and it was especially good to get to watch together. I drove our parents to a Masters practice round back in the early 1990s when I was on spring break as a teacher, so I had personal memories to share about them and our experience on the course.

Having the Masters to watch was good timing. Friday I felt rotten all day. Saturday was rough in the morning, but I gradually improved as the day went on.

And I woke yesterday feeling just fine!

I even felt up to an outing to the local trading card shop I like. I sold some baseball cards and got store credit for some basketball cards I wanted. And I had some luck and found an autographed card in a pack. "Auto" cards are some of my favorites. It was a good day to have an outing and then come home and watch the final round of the Masters.

I feel good today, too. I'm hoping that continues.

I'm even making plans for my biggest outing since before my diagnosis this past autumn.

Today I bought a couple of tickets to the see the Rome Emperors play. They're the Atlanta Braves High-A minor league baseball organization. Rome, GA is a little over an hour from here. I used to try to go once a year to a game but haven't been in many years. I called today to make sure I remembered correctly what route into and through the stadium to take to minimize my walking since mobility is an issue now.

I got two tickets with the shortest path to our seats from where my sister can drop me off near the gate.

I won't even try to make it through a whole game because I know I don't have enough stamina. But it will be nice to see the start of the game. And a bonus is that one of the big league Braves players will be behind the plate as he gets ready for his major league return after surgery.

Of course I know I might wake up and feel rotten and not go to the game. Because life and my health are unpredictable.

But for now I'm excited to think about seeing some live baseball. And trying an outing that's further away than a 30-minute drive.

Please send good vibes for this Rome, GA baseball game trip. That I'll feel up to going and can enjoy my time at the game. And that I can get in and out with not too much trouble. And that I'll not have too much pain or get extremely worn out.

Vibes that all goes well.

And good energy that I don't overwhelm my sister!
